When it comes to raising awareness and trying to make a change, anyone can make a difference. We learned first-hand that even kids can have the compassion to want to help a cause when it’s dear to their hearts. Children’s Leukemia Foundation of Michigan was touched when we received word of a birthday request from a young lady named Jillian. Jillian, who will be turning 7 years old on August 2nd, told her parents that she wanted to help children and animals instead of getting toys this year for her birthday. Our annual Holiday Toys Open House is one of the most memorable, fun events for many Children’s Leukemia Foundation of Michigan families and volunteers. The holidays can be a tough time for families battling cancer because patients are often unable to participate in traditional holiday activities due to health concerns. Holiday parties and visits with Santa in uncontrolled, public environments can put patients in treatment or recovery at risk due to their weakened immune systems. Continue reading

We believe every child should experience the joy of the holiday season. Unfortunately, patients in treatment for leukemia and blood-related cancers, as well as their families, have little funds or time to spare for holiday celebrations due to the treatment expenses and time spent in hospital clinics.
